A review of standards in technical and vocational education and issues for development of standards in Vietnam

Occupational standard and training standard are two concepts seeming to be new for technical and vocational education (TVE) in Vietnam. Although the "standard movement" in education system in the world has experienced for over four decades, the system of education in Vietnam has just mentioned terms of standards for three or four years ago, and TVE is not an exception. Under the pressure of raising quality of education in order to meet needs for economic and social development and of integration in the regional and world economies, standardizing in education in general and in TVE particular becomes more important. This paper is to review concepts of occupational and training standards in several countries. At the same time it shows linkage between two standards, roles of standards as well as critical issues related to development of standards in TVE in Vietnam.

A systematic quality approach, but without reference to a model: a quality framework for the self-evaluation of further education institutions

This paper presents some findings of a survey, which is pleading for the self- evaluation as an essential practice for further education institutions willing to improve their quality. It shows that it is not necessary to use one of the current models. The proposed quality framework is to be considered as the most important element of the research. It was developed on the base of a comparative model analysis. Its suitability was confirmed after an investigation with experts of further education
