Vietnam recorded GDP growth of 7.4 percent on average in the 1990-2005 period, which was relatively high compared with that in other countries in the region and in the world.
Nevertheless with an objective of reaching a sustainable development economic growth poses some chalienges and problems that need to be looked into more seriously, so that solution can be found.
The article analyzes the problems challenging the economic growth in Vietnam in the past few years, namely
- Economic growth has been mainly extensive, but not intensive
- Low technological level
- Quality of human resources still remains very modest
- Low labour productivity and low investment efficiency
Poor competitiveness of the economy, enterprises and products
Slow transformation of economic and labour structure for industrialization and modernization
The structure of revenue collection sources still remain instable
The gap between the rich and the poor still remains wide
Alarming status of unemployment
- Economic growth combined with the protection of natural resources and environment has not been given due attention to.

How to train skilled workers and technicians effectively

Training and developing skilled workers and technicians is a decisive factor for social economic development of the country. This has been given due attention to in service of industrialization and modernization, and the results of this have been encouraging, however, the scales of training courses still remain modest and leave much to be desired, and in some cases the training is quite wasteful.
The article analizes the status of the training of skilled workers and proposes solutions. The following contents have been focused on:
1. The scale and pace of labour forces
2. Academic background of the labour forces
3. Technical of the training of skilled work force in the abour market
4. The impact of the skilled work force on the labour productivity
5. Solutions include expanding the high schools; vocational schools, on the job the training, renovating the text books.

The awareness of the socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam

Realizing the market economy under socialist regulation in Vietnam is a major content in the economic model in the transitional period toward socialism. The article analyzes and elaborates the theorical and practical sides of the socialist regulated market economy, through which to make the following conclusions.
1. In the context of globalization and international economic integration today. The model of the socialist regulated market economy which has been pursued since the IX National Party Congress is a correct policy both theoretically and practically.
2. However if we regarded the model of the socialist regulated market economy as Vietnam's creative policy, it would lead us to fall into subjective thinking.
3. Through theory and practice the author of this article concludes that.
a. According to Marxist doctrine the view that socialism emerged after capitalism still remains scientific
b. Human elements in socialism contradicts with those in the previous societies; as a result if the criteria that were applied to solve social problems of socialist society to be imposed on the period of market economy being in existence, it would naturally stand in the way of the development of market economy.
c. The key for Vietnam at present is how to solve the relations between growth and development, in other words economic growth should go along with social development
d. Vietnam's economy should be broken just into two sectors, namely, state run and private run. It should not be divided into 6 sectors as presently applied.
e. The role of the private owned sector i!1 the national economy should be appreciated.

The relations of economic reality, economic thinking and economic policyin Vietnam's doi moi process

Vietnam has recorded encouraging results after two decades of pursuing "doi moi" policy. The article analyze the relations of economic reality, economic thinking and economic policy in Vietnam's doi moi process.
The article is focused on the following contents
1. These relations are analyzes from the theorntical point of views.
2. And from practical point of view of'doi moi' process the economic problems such as circulation and distribution in agriculture and industry and transportation have arisen that need to be appropriately settled.
Thanks to new thinking in economy and economic policy, Vietnam has managed to stay away from crisis and achieved quite a few successes, especially in agricultural and rural development and poverty elimination.
In short the dialectical relations of economic reality-new thinking in economy and economic policy have been shaped.
