5 Bilingual life of the Cong and Ha Nhi ethnic minorities in North Western region
Based on research studying two hamlets of Ha Nhi and Cong ethnic minorities in the North Western region, the author views that in the process of natural transfer of bilingual environment, there appeared change of using bilingual Ha Nhi-Thai, Ha Nhi-Quan Hoa and Cong-Thai to Ha Nhi-Viet and Cong-Viet. The fact showed that communication of bilingual Cong-Viet, Ha Nhi-Viet has close direct relations with the Vietnamese universalization and regional socio-economic development.
5 Documents of declaration of title in villages along the coastline of Hau Loc district, Thanh Hoa province
Declaration of title is the declaration of the king to give a title to a person or a god. This is a special kind of document, which has important value in research of the Vietnamese traditional villages. From the source of documents in the coastline area of Hau Loc district, the author provided vivid information about the worshipping of village gods as well as concepts and beliefs of people from this area, of the origin of some lineage who came to Hau Loc to settle, and of the change in names of administrative units throughout history.
5 HIV/AIDS infection in Vietnam in the regional context
Through the use HIV/AIDS data, the author determines which groups are at high risk of HIV/AIDS in Southeast Asian contries. Vietnam stands No2 in terms of population in the region but ranks No4 in terms of number of HIV/AIDS cases. Vietnam's mortality rate in general and for children between 0-14 years old due to AIDS ranks No5 in the region. Nevertheless, in order to reduce this situation, we need to increase IEC activities to educate people on HIV/AIDS prevention. At the same time, scientific branches especially the medical community, must quickly find a cure for this century-old disease.
5 Mieu ethnic minority (Hmong) in China
The Mieu ethnic group is the most populous ethnic minority in China. There are a lot of cultural similarities netween the Mieu people in China and the Hmong people in Vietnam. In his article, the author goes into the salient features of the Mieu community in China from linguistics to economic, social and cultural material so that readers can get a broad view and see the relationships between the Mieu people in China and those in neighbouring countries.
5 Process of exploitation and use of mountainous natural environment-proposed issues
The author analyses the natural resources of mountainous areas occupied by ethnic minorities in our country. However with poor education, lack of capital funding and information, and the slow development of a market economy are obstacles to maintaining and enhancing natural resources and to promoting self-sufficiency. In order to have sustainable protection of the environment, we need to involve the communities. Besides, we must understand the ethnic minority's culture so that we can make the best use of their indigenous knowledge in using, protecting and managing the natural environment.
5 Some ecological and human features on resettlement areas of Central highlands
From surveys on ecological and human features on resettlement areas of the Central Highlands, authors showed that we should pay attention to the relationship between population migration and ecological human features of destination areas: (1) conditions of resettlement areas, especially infrastructure and population density that exert an influence on the selection of resettlement areas in Central Highlands; (2) in some crowded immigrant populations, the percentage of poor households, lack of land and nomadic style increased while this percentage is decreased in other areas.
5 Sources of natural food and community management (In the context of poverty reduction for local people in Central Highlands)
Sources of natural food for local people in Central Highlands play an important support role in between seasons or harvest loss. Studies from three villages of Ro mam, Ede and Mnong showed that hundreds of different plants and animals have been used for food. Nowadays, there appears to be inconsistency between local customs and State regulation when utilizing these sources of food. In order to use sources of natural food more effectively for the local people in Central Highlands, we should promote the role of community management through forest allotment. At the same time, state forest farms should delegate to communities the management of non-timber forest products and wild animals.
