Evaluation of the use of antimalarials in the application of thrapeutic regimen at district level in Dien Bien province following the instructions given by the Ministry of Health

A retrospective study on antimalarial drugs usage in accordance with guidelines of Ministry of Health was conducted in four districts of Dien Bien province: Dien Bien Dong, Dien Bien, Muong Lay and Tuan Giao. 201 medical records from June 2002 to June 2004 were studied. It revealed that the rate of incorrect diagnosis of clinical malaria was high with 30.4% of cases. The most important reason was that blood culturing for malaria was done once only (20.1% of cases). Mistakes in dosage of drugs and duration of treatment course were 10.9% and 18.9%, respectively. Drugs were combined in 58.8% patients with positive serum malaria and in 11.4% patients of clinical malaria. Health professionals should be trained more regularly in order to improve the quality of malaria control.

Flower of Premna integrifolia L. contains alcaloids, flavonoids, free sugars and 15 elements. From it one fine substance was isolated. On the basis of m.p.UV, IR, MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, HMQC analyses it was identified to be acid p.methoxy cinnamic.

Study on finding an internal standard to replace desispramine in HPLC determination of imipramine hydrochloride

System suitability tests are an integral part of liquid chromatographic technique. They are used to verify the resolution and reproducibility of the analysis to be done with the HPLC method for assay and related substances test of imipramine hydrochloride in raw material as well as in pharmaceutical dosage forms introduced. In the United States pharmacopoeia 24 needs to use Desipramine hydrochloride as the internal standard to verify the suitability of chromatographic system. In the case of lacking it to use. Amitryptiline hydrochloride can be use as the internal standard in place of Desipramine hydrochloride.

Study on the establishment of the formulation of 0.1% diclofenac eye drops

Diclofenac sodium 0.1% opthalmic solution is not very stable. The solution's pH and the rate of propylene glycol, sodium metabisulfite play important roles in keeping the preparation more stable. The optimal formula was established by MODDE 5.0 software. This preparation may be stable more than 20 months at room conditions and protected from light.

Study on the isolation, chemical structure elucidation and biological activities of saponins from roots of Momordica cochinchinesis Spreng

Two saponins, Momordin I and Momordin Ib were isolated from the root of Momordica cochinchinensis Spreng. Their structure were determined on the basis of spectra including IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, COSY, HMQC, HMBC and by comparison with published data. The structures of two saponins were elucidated as Oleanolic acid 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl (1-3)-beta-D-glucuronopyranoside (Momordin I) and 3beta-([O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]oxy)-olean-12-ene-2B-oic acid (Momordin Ib). At the first time, saponins were tested on antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity. The results showed that both of saponins inhibit E.coli and B.subtillis but have no cytotoxicity.
