About "new" Vietnamese architecture: In practice, there are some shortcomings in Vietnam’s architectural approach. This has some expression. Firstly, in training and investment in creation, we concern technical factor more than arts, time and inartistic subjects account for too large portion in a training program of architects. This is a backward point in comparison with the world because in the time of technological and scientific development creative ability of new arts has been highly appreciated. Secondly, in terms of assessing and selecting works we always pay attention to old values which are stable, moderate rather than encourage new creation in artistic forms. Thirdly, in professional activities, we emphasize public and political meaning with the cheerful guideline rather than improving professional quality. Fourthly, in creative orientation, we turn back traditional values with obsession of specific characteristics: we concern how the public understands the work rather than appreciate highly the new and advanced ones. Fifthly, we disregard propaganda of artistic knowledge. This approach is suitable in the war. But if it lasts for a long time, it will be an obstacle in normal development of fine arts in general and architectural culture in particular.

Architectural heritage preservation on the development process of existing urban centres in Ho Chi Minh city: Existing preservation and restoration in Hochiminh city have no general orientation in a large scale. Expressivity of materials and architectural idea: Architectural idea sometimes exceeds application of materials. It urges researchers to find out new building materials serving architectural idea. In 1930, 1931 the first architects of the first-generation Vietnamese architects graduated. Since then, there is officially the first generation of Vietnamese architects, real artists. Idea and propensity of Vietnam's first-generation architects can be divided into following points: 1-Combining French culture with Vietnamese culture; 2-Combining humanism with patriotism; 3-Developing from traditional to modem and mixing harmoniously traditional and modern.
